Natural gas distributor Atmos Energy Corp. is building a 48,600-square-foot service center and training facility in Plano, where it will employ 89 people by the end of 2012. The jobs will be a combination of new positions and transfers from other Dallas-area locations.
The $7.7 million facility at 3697 Mapleshade Lane will serve customers in North Dallas and the northern suburbs. It will also be a training hub for Atmos employees as well as emergency responders and others who deal with natural gas systems and need to understand how those systems are installed and function in communities.
The center will also house an Atmos dispatch team and have mock-ups of home, apartment and commercial buildings on which Atmos technicians will train for various types of natural gas installations. The building is being built to achieve Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design Silver Certification by the U.S. Green Building Council. (4/30/10)
