The Plano Planning and Zoning Commission approved plans to redevelop the Shops at Willow Bend Monday night.
Starwood Retail Partners said it's moving ahead and expects the demolition to take longer than normal because it's trying to recycle construction materials instead of sending it into a landfill, said Amy Medford, a spokeswoman for the mall.
Last October, the mall owner said it had plans for a $100 million project that included tearing down the long vacant Saks Fifth Avenue building that faces the Dallas North Tollway.
Based on a blueprint filed with the city of Plano, the site will be rebuilt for retail shops and restaurants. The blueprint shown below, includes new five restaurant spaces and three labeled retail.
Willow Bend's plans add to the competition for new restaurants and retail among the multiple projects under construction in Plano, Frisco and The Colony along the Tollway and State Highway 121. (8/2/2016)
