Plano, Texas, has been ranked the best-run city in America and San Bernardino, Calif., the worst-run, according to the second annual ranking of the 100 largest American cities by 24/7 Wall St. Texas had the most number of best-run cities in the top 20 — Plano, Austin, Irving and Lubbock. Many of the best-run cities either have at least one industry that supports the labor force, or are close enough to major urban centers, such as Dallas, Phoenix and San Francisco, to benefit from jobs available there, the business news site said.
Among the worst run, Florida had three cities in the Top 20. They are: Miami, ranked No. 2, Hialeah and Orlando.
The ranking was based on data from a number of sources including the 2011 Census. Factors such as the city’s credit rating, poverty, education, crime, unemployment and regional GDP were considered to evaluate how well a city is managed over the long term. (1/15/13)
